The British used it as a sanatorium because the plateau sits a few hundred feet above the sea and stays cooler than the beach.

Five hours is five hours. If your Friday ends at 8 pm in Andheri, you reach Dapoli after midnight or you leave on Saturday morning. Owners solve this by taking a Friday off twice a quarter, or by driving at dawn on Saturday and staying till Monday morning. Either way, this is a weekend home, not a Sunday-evening home.
The monsoon is serious. June to September brings well over 3,000 mm of rain to this coast. Swimming is off, the ghats can slip, and the Mumbai-Goa highway, still being four-laned fourteen years after it was sanctioned, has stretches that flood. The same monsoon is why the place looks like a postcard in October. Some of our owners come only for the rains, which tells you something.
